WINGS GOALIE DALLAS ELIUK SUSPENDED TWO GAMES FOR SLASHING INCIDENT
The National Lacrosse League is suspending Philadelphia Wings goalie Dallas Eliuk for two games as a result of a slashing incident on Pitttsburghs Paul Cantabene on February 26. Eliuk will also be responsible for paying a $1,000 fine.
Eliuk will begin to serve the suspension on Saturday, March 18, when the Wings travel to Syracuse to meet the Smash. Eliuk will be replaced in the nets by back-up goalie Andy Piazza, who will start for the Wings for the first time since his only other start on January 7, l995. Brian Dougherty, a free agent goalie signed today by the Wings, will serve as the teams back-up for the game.
Eliuk left his crease with 35 remaining in the contest on February 26, and slashed Cantabene. He served a five-minute match penalty for an attempt to injure as the result of the slash.
The Wings (4-2) have been idle since February 26 and are awaiting their next contest on March 18 at Syracuse. The Wings will return home to face the defending NLL Champion Toronto Rock on Saturday, March 25 at the First Union Center.
