WINGS TOP ATTACK IN OT, 13-12
April 2, 2000
John McEvoy scored 50 seconds into overtime and the
Philadelphia Wings lived to see another day with a victory less
than a day after having a scare thrown into their playoff hopes.
McEvoys heroics gave Philly a 13-12 win in Albany this
afternoon and raised their record to 6-4, pulling them into a tie
for the fourth and final playoff spot with the Attack, who
theyd also needed overtime to beat on opening weekend at
the First Union Center. Albany lost at home for the first time
this season and had a five-game winning streak overall snapped.
After Albany scored the last two goals of the third quarter and
the first two of the fourth quarter to take their first lead of
the game, 10-8, Philadelphia stayed right in the game with two
goals in 1:15. The Attacks Troy Cordingley put his team up
11-10 with his third goal of the game at 7:48 of the fourth, but
Tom Ryan got that one back for the Wings less than two minutes
later. With the teams then tied at 11 heading into the
games final minutes, Albanys Dallas Squire looked
like hed be the hero after he beat Wings goalie Dallas
Eliuk on a power play goal with just 2:33 left. But, Game MVP
Jake Bergey scored his second goal of the afternoon with just
1:26 left, setting the stage for McEvoys heroics, which
Bergey also got an assist on. He finished with five points. Josh
Sanderson led the Attack with a five-point game (3+2) of his own.
The Wings, coming off a 16-11 loss in Buffalo last night, never
led by more than two in snapping a two-game losing streak. They
were playing the make-up of the game originally scheduled for
February 18 which got postponed due to weather.
