WINGS CRUSH BANDITS, 22-11
April 8, 2000
The Philadelphia Wings more than avenged last weeks loss
to the Buffalo Bandits in clinching a playoff spot tonight. The
Wings scored a season high 22 goals in doubling up their rival,
putting both teams at 7-4 and in a three-way tie with Rochester
for second place, one game behind first-place Toronto.
Mark Millon did most of the damage for Philadelphia, winners of
two in a row after having dropped a 16-11 decision in HSBC Arena
one week ago tonight. Millon scored five goals and added six
assists and was named Game MVP. Buffalos John Tavares, the
MVP last week with eight points, had five tonight (2+3) to lead
the visitors, who played for the second week in a row without
Chris Driscoll. The veteran, averaging almost four points a game
this season, is sidelined with a pinched nerve.
The Bandits also lost their second-leading scorer, Derek
Malawsky, early in the third quarter to a game misconduct penalty
in an outbreak which also saw Philadelphias David Stilley
ejected and 41 minutes in penalties called.
A crowd of 16,187 was on hand tonight at the First Union Center.
Buffalo and Albany tangle next week in Pepsi Arena while
Philadelphia travels to Rochester. The final two playoff spots
will be determined then as one of the three, the Bandits, Attack,
or Knighthawks, will play their final game of the season.
