Wings - Saints Preview

In Philadelphia the Wings will look to remain in the thick of the first place hunt when they host the New York Saints on Saturday night. This will be the 25th regular season meeting between the two franchises. Both teams are coming in off victories at home last weekend. New York has some bitter feelings about this weekend’s opponent caused by last year’s playoffs. The Saints finished in a tie for fourth place and the final post-season berth, but were on the wrong end of the tiebreaker which sent the Wings onward and New York home.

New York Saints at Philadelphia Wings, Saturday, 7:30 p.m., First Union Center
Broadcast Info.: TV: Wings - Comcast SportsNet (live)
Records: New York (2-2), Philadelphia (2-1)
Key Players: New York - Matt Panetta, the hero of last weekend’s overtime victory against Albany, had ten points in the two games against Philadelphia last season. Jason Wulder was a hero against the Wings when the teams met in New York last March, scoring the winning goal on a penalty shot with 1.6 seconds left. That was his fifth goal of the night. Wulder last week had an assist on the goal which brought New York within one with just over four and a half minutes left in the game.
Philadelphia - Tom Marechek’s seven point outing, which included three fourth quarter goals and earned him Game MVP honors last Saturday night, earned him Player of the Week honors. Jake Bergey led all scorers that night with four goals and four assists. Jason Clark was drafted by the Saints in September, 1998, but did not play for New York last year. So far he has debuted with ten points for the Wings in his first three NLL games.
Notable: The last three games between these two teams have been decided by one goal...The Wings were 0-3 at this point last season. They lost their fourth game as well...New York’s Sal LoCascio, who was in goal for both games against Philadelphia last season, has been added to the Saints’ active roster. He had been on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury suffered in one of the games with the Wings last season. He is pro indoor lacrosse’s second all-time saves leader, trailing only the man at the other end of the floor this Saturday night, Philly’s Dallas Eliuk...The television broadcast will be replayed Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. on Empire Sports Network and again on the New England Sports Network on Tuesday (Feb. 8) at 3 p.m.
