Steve Govett Named Wings GM

Former Philadelphia Wings forward Steve Govett was named the team's general manager, it was announced today by Wings President Russ Cline. Govett will be responsible for coordinating player acquisitions, scouting, staffing and recruiting, as well as organizing the team's tryouts and training camp. He will also produce sponsorship and marketing opportunities for the team, as well as the individual players. |

Govett amassed 49 points (26 goals, 23 assists) during 36 regular season games with the Wings from l994 through l998. Known for his physical-style of indoor lacrosse, Govett recorded 115 penalty minutes during his four-year playing career, which also included three league championships in l994, l995 and l998."Steve is a tremendous leader both on and off the field and he possesses a tremendous amount of knowledge of the indoor lacrosse game," said Cline in making the announcement. "We are confident that he will maintain that level of leadership and contribute to taking the Wings to the top of the National Lacrosse League." Previous to this season, Wings Executive Vice President Michael French had served as the team's General Manager. French will continue his role as Executive Vice President, however Govett will handle the day-to-day operations of the team in coordination with the coaching staff and the Wings home office in Kansas City, MO. "I'm looking forward to creating new and exciting opportunities for the Wings not only on the field, but in the marketplace," said Govett. Govett, a native of Burnaby, British Columbia, attended Radford University where he became the school's all-time leading goal scorer with 118 goals. He and his wife, Eileen, and their daughter, MacKenzie, reside in Robbinsville, New Jersey. |
