Philadelphia Wings Announce Protected Players For NLL Expansion Draft

The Philadelphia Wings have released their Protected/Unprotected List for next week's National Lacrosse League's Expansion Draft. The Wings have chosen to protect both goaltenders, Dallas Eliuk and Andy Piazza, and an additional 10 field players, versus the 14-man option which only allows for one goalie. Local favorites such as Jake Bergey, Tom Marechek and Matt Ogelsby are safely guarded. The 23-man roster is divided this way:

The Expansion Draft will be held next Wednesday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m. for the newest franchise in Albany, New York. This draft will allow General Manager/Head Coach Terry Sanderson to pick up seven veteran lacrosse players for his still unnamed team. It will be held via a conference call with the league office and the other teams. Newly appointed General Manager and former Wings player Steve Govett and members of the Philadelphia Wings home office will represent the team during the expansion draft.

Presently, Albany retains the first overall pick in the NLL Draft, being held Tuesday, September 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the Marine Midland Arena.
