<<Dragons hold off Villanova for Second Lax Win of Season; 8-7
March 9,2001
PHILADELPHIA Drexel University held an 8-5 edge over Villanova with 5:50 remaining in regulation and held on for the 8-7 win in men's lacrosse action, hosted at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, this evening. Drexel freshman Mark Williamson's (2g, 1a) second goal of the evening proved to be the gamewinner, as he converted a perfectly threaded pass from sophomore Jason Kilpatrick (2g, 1a) at the 9:10 mark for the Dragons' eighth goal. The Wildcats netted the final two tallies of the contest but were unable to get the tying goal past Drexel's junior goalkeeper Jordie Olivella who picked up four of his 14 saves in the contest in the fourth quarter. The win, Drexel's second straight, improves the Dragons to 2-1 under second-year head coach Chris Bates. Villanova, a 13-7 winner over Drexel last season, falls to 1-2.

Drexel senior Jeff Spano finished as the point leader on the night, putting away two goals and assisting on two others. He tallied his 100th career point with an assist on Drexel's fifth goal (by junior Joe Iannarino) at the 6:05 mark of the third quarter. Villanova, which outshot the Dragons 33-26 and launched 10 shots at Olivella in the fourth quarter, capitalized for three extra-man tallies and received two goals each from Andrew Bogle, Justin Marks and Brian Marks, both sons of head coach Randy Marks.>>
