Moss enjoying fresh start
Defenseman gets out of rebuilding process in San Jose

For six years, Jim Moss bought into the philosophy and took the losses like a trouper.
Then, for six games, Moss demonstrated he wasn't going to take it anymore.
The two-time All-Star defenseman sat out the San Jose Stealth's first six games this season because, when boiled down to simplest terms, the philosophy wasn't working.
"I had a disagreement with the team management in San Jose," said Moss, who on Feb. 7 was traded to the Colorado Mammoth.
"The direction they were headed as a program and my personal goals as a player didn't really line up anymore."
Moss had spent his entire career with the San Jose franchise - it moved from Albany, N.Y., in 2004 - and seldom tasted the fruits of victory.
While in Albany, the franchise was moderately successful, advancing to the 2002 Champion's Cup, where it lost to Toronto. But since moving to San Jose, 4-12 and 5-11 records were more common, and the Stealth currently resides at the bottom of the West Division with a 1-5 mark.
"I had sat through a couple of rebuilds," Moss said, "and I wasn't really interested in doing it again."
To get Moss, an All-Star in 2004 and 2005, the Mammoth shipped forward Andrew Burkholder and a first-round choice in the 2007 entry draft to the Stealth.
Moss, who also has time as a transition player on his résumé, will make his Mammoth debut tonight at Portland (8 MST, Rose Garden, Altitude2).
"It's an ideal situation," said Moss, who joins a defending- champion Mammoth squad that boasts a league-best 6-1 record. "It could have gone a lot of different ways."
Moss, who will turn 30 next month, has scored 38 goals, handed out 34 assists and collected 488 loose balls in 81 career games. He will join a back line that includes fellow Ontario, Canada, native Pat Coyle, 37, whose career Moss followed closely as he grew up.
"We're pretty happy to have Jim," Mammoth coach Gary Gait said. "It adds another player who brings a lot of experience, which helps because this is the youngest team we've ever had."
Some of those young players, such as Jamie Shewchuk and Matt Taylor, made Burkholder expendable. Obtained from Rochester last season, Burkholder played solidly down the stretch for Colorado but was the odd man out this year and was active for only three games.
While the Mammoth understandably is ecstatic about the deal, the rest of the NLL sees Colorado's acquisition of Moss as the rich getting richer.
"He's just another piece of their puzzle we'll have to solve," said Calgary coach Chris Hall, whose team visits the Pepsi Center on Sunday
So have we Jim.... Enough with the rebuilds in SJ...
