Redmen Release 25 Man Protected List

For Immediate Release
January 22, 2002 - Scarborough, ON
The Brooklin Redmen have released their 25 man protected list for the 2002 season. The Major Series teams will meet on February 5, 2002 in Whitby, Ontario for the annual draft.

Once again this year the Redmen were limited to protecting two local graduating players. The Major Series voted by a count of four teams to two to determine that each team would only be able to protect two graduating players from the junior ranks. Calvin Curtis, Redmen President, noted that the team voted against this proposal as it goes against the organization's philosophy of building a team with local talent and supporting the players who play in Durham Region.

The Redmen have protected A.J. Shannon and Wes Suddons who both played with the Whitby Warriors Junior A squad in 2001. Shannon played 18 games for the Warriors in 2001 and netted 36 goals with 34 helpers for a total of 69 points, adding eight minutes in penalties. Suddons played 19 games for the Warriors and scored one goal with four assists for five points and accumulated 34 penalty minutes. Suddons is also suiting up this winter for the Columbus Landsharks of the National Lacrosse League and in seven games with the pro team has one assist and has gathered 14 loose balls.

The balance of the protected list for the Redmen is as follows:

Rob Blasdell
Gee Nash

Derek Suddons

Marty O'Brien
