Sophomore Mike Powell, the younger brother of Buffalo Bandits forward Ryan Powell, had a career game with five goals and three assists as No. 2 Syracuse opened its mens lacrosse season with a 18-11 victory over No. 20 Army in the Carrier Dome. The victory was the 700th in Syracuse's 83 year history. John Hopkins is the only other program to win 700 games.
Elsewhere: Orchard Park (NY) graduates Brian Myers and Brad Monaco helped No. 4 Towson open their season with a 15-8 victory at Rutgers. Myers had two goals while Monaco added a pair of assists.
