Bob Mathews of Rochester D&C stated today that Pat will not return this summer.
Anyone know of the catalyst for this decision? And what may be the long term status of our star goalie?

Pat is taking the summer off to heal some injuries. Who knows, maybe he played most of the NLL season injured

Which is why the Peterborough Lakers acquired Mike Thompson to fill the void.

The Lakers will be snapping up anyone and everyone to purchase the 2010 Mann Cup. This year MSL season will be a one trick pony....pretty pathetic and boring if you ask me....

senior summer box used to hold my attention. but not anymore. junior box is far more interesting.

I actually find the NLL boring. What Peterborough is doing should be stopped but at least it comes down to a hard fought 7 game series in the end. It is better than the circus act of the NLL.

Canlax,
What should the Lakers do???....disperse there talented team around the League, too even up the teams abit?
I've been watching this Laker team for 20 years now, and I don't remember anyone offering to help them out back in the early 90's when the Lakers were getting there ***'s kick all over the floor in front of 50 fans.
Ted Higgins deserves alot of credit, sticking with the Lakers and developing a successful MSL team.
2,500 lacrosse didnt just show up at the "M" Centre by accident.
Theres no reason the success the Lakers are having right now can't be done in other city's as well.

Actually, they sort of did.
Even in 2004, the first Mann Cup year in 20 years, attendance was sort of thin through most of the season and the early part of the playoffs.
Two things got the fans out 1) a helluva exciting 7 game series against Six Nations, and 2) that damned flooding......I think people were starving for something fun to do, and it just so happened the Lakers were there at the right time offering it.
Higgins was doing everything right, but I don't think he would have gotten that many people excited about lacrosse again without that bit of help from mother nature.

Are you kidding me?
I never thought of the 2004 Flood being directly involved in the Lakers success story.........
I always thought the flood was responsible for everone having new large screen TV's , new finished basements, new PC's, new furnace's and new furniture.
2004 flood=2,500 lacrosse fans going to Lakers games.....OK

Jonsey - No I don't think that the Lakers should disperse their purchased talent.....they paid for them! HOWEVER the OLA/CLA should be the ones to ensure the talent is dispersed. There needs to be some rules and regulations put in place as to how many Professional Players are allowed on each team. This will ensure that the teams are evened up.
Peterborough is the ONLY team in the league who can afford to BUY the top NLL players which will BUY them the cup! This is all thanks to 2500 + fans that paid to show up!
Sorry but NO other team can have the same success as the Lakers because they can't afford it. No fans show up and teams are losing their sponsorship because no team is able to beat the NLL All Star Team that the Lakers have purchased.
Yes koodoos to Mr Higgins for buying himself yet another Mann Cup! He should save himself a buck or two and get rid of the coaching staff.... These players have WAY too much talent, a 5yr old could do the job!
MSL is slowly crumbling. We live in a material world and $$$ talks. The MSL is down to 6 teams, how many will there be next season..........

Canlax,
You fail to mention about how many home-grow Peterborough lads are on this team also. These players live here and played all the minor Lacrosse here.
1. Shawn Evans
2. Scott Evans
3. John Grant
4. Kyle Clancey
5. Ryan Sharp
6. Josh Wasson
7. Chris White
8. Arron Greyson
9. Scott Self
10. Kyle Sorensen
11. Daryl Walsh
12. Mac O'Brien
13. Joel Wasson
14. Tracy Kelusky
15. Cory Vitarelli
16. Josh Gilliam
17. Kyle Laverty
18. Turner Evans
Im probably missing a few players and dont forget about the Peterborough boys that have been traded recently to get the NLL all stars.
Do you really think the Lakers have bought all the these local players to play for there home town team?....I dont think so.
Jonesy
Yes indeed an impressive list, no one would deny that the Lakers have an admirable 'system', facility and financial resources.
But mentally revise your list to represent those players that would play unpaid if the fincial resources weren't there. It wouldn't be the same list.
And there is no hard feelings, just again, admiration.
As for the Peterborough boys that were recently traded I'm sure that their not overly impressed at the possibilty of having to 'pay as you play' at their new digs.

Odd no one is slagging Brampton, who bought the last two. Or Six Nations who bought the Minto a couple of years ago. Or speaking of the west, where professional players jump teams on a regular basis for a better buck. Or better yet, pull from the Eastern Talent Pool to be able to compete against Eastern Teams for the Cup.
Don't blame Peterborough for producing. Blame the other centers for sitting around doing nothing to promote their teams, bring in fans, and make the money necessary to operate a franchise. Just sitting around shiftless hoping the establishment will make the world right for them. What a load of ..............
Anyone complaining about Six Nations buying Doyle, and probably, Manning and others from the Ex's as none of them have played a game in Brampton this year? Where did Paul Dawson go? West for cash.

just admit it, senior summer ball regular season is a waste.

I agree that the regular season is a waste, but the playoffs are special. While I enjoy the NLL immensely, a best of 7 series has a unique appeal.

Just admit it, if you had to watch the NLL with all american players you wouldn't. Geez it really wouldn't even be worth while without the current Lakers lineup. Canadian players don't stay in the states when your money dries up, they come home and play real lacrosse.

Derek Collins is now with the Kahnawake Mohawks of the QSLL.

Collins move does nothing but open up a goalie spot for a more talented tender. Craig Robertson is coming along well, and don't count Paddy out of playing his minimum games. Collins has had his moments over the years, but is way too hot and cold. When he's on, he's on, when he's off............. wow.

He's still around. I believe he retired a year or two back. After the Lakers he played a couple seasons for the Senior B Norwood Nitro.
