Laxnut: there's a game report posted on the Unofficial OLA page. It was a hell of a good game! Sweet revenge for Brampton after that 18-5 pasting at the hands of the Redmen earlier this year. Check out the following link:

Just for the record, myself and the rest of the contingency of Brampton fans who made the trip would like to raise a frosty brew to Torrrock and his wife for opening their backyard to us for a great warmup party. Thanks for having us!

Well, Saturday night was the third round in the Brampton Brooklin battle, and to say the least, it's been one helluva ride.

Brampton lost the first game versus Brooklin on June 6 by a score of 18-5, and needless to say, Brampton didn't bring their A game at all. I'm not going to get into that one...for obvious reasons.

Thursday, June 20: The game was back and forth all night and the only 2 goal advantage came near the end of the second period when Jr. A call-up Dan Dawson scored his second goal of the game and second in succession to put the home team up 7-5. The second period ended that way but Gary Rosyski scored 30 seconds into third frame to bring it within one again. The score would remain that way until Brian Beisel would score, on a very nice break-out play from Eric Pacey and Mike Hasen, with a minute and 5 seconds left in the game. Steve Penny would ice it with an empty net marker. Both goaltenders made some great saves during this game.

Brooklin were without Steve Toll, Dan Ladoceur, Kelly Sullivan and Shawn Williams. Brampton played without Josh Sanderson, Jim Moss, Chris Driscoll, Casey Zaph, Rusty Kruger and Jamie Roy.
It was a rather spirited affair, featuring a rather surprising fight between Josh Sanderson (not the biggest guy on the floor by a long shot) versus Daryl Gibson...the fight ended when the referees successfully exatricated Josh's fist from Gibson's head.

Saturday, June 22: On this, Scott McMichael Minor Lacrosse Night, the Redmen had their largest crowd of the year on hand and were looking to greet their guests in the same way and send them packing with a loss. The Excelsiors were coming off a successful weekend road trip to Akwesasne where they outscored the Thunder 51-12 over two games and the Redmen were coming off a loss in Brampton, as noted, and a win on the road last weekend in the Garden City.

The Redmen went with Rob Blasdell in net while the Excelsiors continue to use both goalies this season and started Brandon Miller, who was in net for the earlier win by the Redmen.

The visitors took it to the Redmen early with a pair of goals at 4:15 and 7:52 before Derek Suddons was able to close the gap as the period was drawing to the halfway mark. The visitors countered with two more to take a 4-1 lead with three and one half minutes left on the clock in the first. Rookie Kasey Beirnes was able to score a nice shorthanded marker at 16:29 that seemed to lift the spirits on the home bench. However, the story of the night would be set at the end of the first period. With a second left on the shot clock and less than a minute on the clock Ben Prepchuk fired one past Blasdell to take the wind out of the Redmen sail. The teams went to break with Brampton up 5-2.

Jason Crosbie answered before most fans got back from the concession stands with a goal 0:13 in to close the gap to 5-3. Once again the visitors answered to restore the three-goal margin. The teams traded goals through the second period and tied the middle frame at three goals apiece giving the Excelsiors an 8-5 lead with one period of regulation time remaining.

The visitors did what they had to do to stop the Redmen on this night. They knew that they had to score early in the last period, they did with less than a minute gone and added another before Beirnes was able to respond for the home side. The Redmen were not able to score in the last half of the final frame and Brampton came out with a 12-8 win and a commanding lead on first overall. The win elevates the Excelsiors to a record of 9-1 for 18 points while the Redmen are just above .500 with a 5-4 record for 10 points.

Referees on the night, Nurse and Cafagna, handed out eight minor penalties, four to each team. The Redmen went with Blasdell for the distance while the Excelsiors went with Miller.

Next action for the Redmen is Wednesday June 26, 2002 when they host St. Catharines at home at 8:00 p.m. This will be the last game for the members of the Redmen that are playing for Team Canada in the World Field Lacrosse Championships in Australia from July 5-14. The list includes Shawn Williams, Steve Toll and Cam Woods.

Scoring Summary

As all the previous posts here have said, a great time....

It was great to put some faces with the the names...Jimbo and Baggy in particular. Two incredibly nice and knowledgable people. I could listen to those stories for hours.

Torrrock, buddy....great job. Thank Bonnie for us as she is a saint plus she saved me life from a concrete concussion.

Aside from leaving my keys in Mony's car and hitching back home to Richmond Hill and back to Oshawa in the morning it was a great time. But then again, when Brampton wins, it is a good time!!:D

You always meet some interesting people. When is Pat's next game in Brooklin??? hahaha

Thanks to all of you for showing up and making it a great time.

I agree, it was cool to meet a few more people from this board that I haven't met yet.

Maybe we can get RA to show his face one of these years :)

Finn, glad you made it home, especially considering who you got a ride home with. :rotfl: If you have time, send me a few pics through email (if you figured out how to download them on your computer yet:)).

There we stood - five of us, enjoying comradarie in "The Great Game."

And how about that - each and every one of us had one thing in common. - RA's Outsider's Guide.

RA - we acknowledged you for your contribution. Wish you could have been part of the group.

Rockfinn, Rockfan, Jimbo, Torrock,....nice to meet you.

The fraternity of fans and players within this game is what makes it so distinctive.
