Recreational Boxla is a go!

We have the Mississauga Valley Arena booked for July 21, 2002, from 6:45-7:45. Saturday, the 20th, the arena is unavailable due to the fact that there's a bunch of people from Toronto having a ball hockey tournament there from 8:00AM to 9:00PM (dead serious...) and the same goes for Sunday. I could have booked on Saturday, but not until 9:00PM, so I figured Sunday would be better.

Equipment (this is important people):
Helmet (cage optional but recommended)
Jock or Jill
Gloves
Stick
Balls (no, the Indian rubber kind)
Dark and light shirts so we can tell the teams apart!

I'm going to be choosing teams with the uber-scientific method of gathering all sticks in the center circle and tossing them to different sides.

Chime in here people and let me know who's coming! So far we've got at least 3!
:D

Excellent!
I was just talking to RJ Wannamaker about the event, and he's expressed interest. Doesn't guarantee that he'll be there, but at least we're getting more interest in this thing.
We are trying to get a referee and a timekeeper as well for this thing, but so far, I haven't heard anything. We are hoping to snag David Cosmo to ref, but if he's got prior commitments, we'll just have to work on the honour system. :rotfl:
I have this wierd feeling that, like , 50 people are going to show up and we'll have one goalie... It would be cool to have 2 full benches, but we'll see come Sunday.

WHEEEEE! :D

Meathead,

Please tell me you have a cap (like 12-15 per side?)

I'd hate to travel all the way to Mississauga for one shift :)

So far, the only definite responses I have had have been from the folks here, and that's like 12-15 people tops...look at it this way:
We have the floor for one full hour. Playing 7 a side, that's like 6 runners and one goalie per team, and even if we play half floor, you'll still get plenty of floor time.
If we do get a lot of people, then I'll just have to organize something for the next weekend that's a little longer...darn. :p

Damn, me and my big mouth ... more floor time? Do you know how out of shape I am! :)

By the way, thanks for putting this together Meathead.

Maybe we could just make sure to tell people to contact Meathead if they're coming? That way he knows how many to expect, and can adjust accordingly...

If it turns out that i'm the only goalie, that's kewl. I could change ends after every goal!! I'm prepared to do a lot of running!!! lol :p Playing goal is not that bad, bruises heal!!

I was rooting through a friend's equipment bag looking for a cage and gloves to borrow (parents garage saled all the choice pieces of my old hockey equipment a couple years back).

Anyhow, I found what appears to be most of a set of goal equipment.....buddy wrecked his knees a while back and its been collecting dust since then. I will ask if we can borrow it. We would still need an extra goal stick, but I'm pretty sure that the rest could be ours for the night in exchange for a 12-pack or something.

I'll let you guys know.

Otherwise, I guess we could just do it like 1/2 court basketball defending team carries it out, and right back in (everyone has to clear the line) to attack the same goalie they were just defending.
