Brampton Excelsiors Clinch 1st Place!
The Brampton Major Excelsiors clinched first place overall tonight with a 24-2 win over the Akwasasne Thunder. The score at the end of the first was 11-0 and 17-0 at the end of two. The score reached 24-0 before the Thunder scored the last 2 goals of the game. Pretty goals by the visitors I might add. The third period was played straight time and the Brampton players made a nice gesture by leaving a case of beer on ice for the Thunder's "8 or 9" runners who showed up. Kind of a sad situation but a lot of respect was given to those players, their coach and training staff, who have stuck it out all year.
Scoring for Brampton: Josh Sanderson (3,5) Chris Parkin (3,4) John Harasym (2,4) Chris Driscoll (3,1) Ben Prepchuk (3,0) Jim Moss (2,2) Dan Teat (2,1) Brandon Miller (0,3) Kevin Lunnie (0,3) Ryan Painter (2,1) Bruce Codd (1,2) Mike Accursi (1,2) Philip Sanderson (1,1) Jamie Roy (0,1)
Thunder Goals: Brandon LaForme and Graham Passmore.
Excelsiors next games are in Peterborough July 25th and in Brooklin July 27th. They finish out the regular season Thursday Aug. 1st at home against the Chiefs.
