View Full Version : Tailgate Parties

At the last meeting, a member of the Pack suggested having "formal" tailgate parties where we'd invite, say, the Krew when ROC comes to town and the PWFC when the Wings come to town.

Initially, I liked the idea, but another member (Greg?) and my wife both were concerned about the legal ramifications involving liability and alcohol.

I agree too; at this point, I don't think we have the $$ nor the numbers to support any sort of tailgate party - especialy if alcohol is involved - because we would need to purchase liability insurance... (and a liquor license?)

I wonder what Krew or PWFC do... Do they have formal tailgate parties and/or get liability insurance?

Perhaps, such tailgating parties can be held by this Albany Attack Pack member, but, for now, I don't think it's a wise idea to have the club formally have any ties with it.

Opinions?

Hey Vin, We did tailgate parties for the Rattlers. There is a park within 100 yards from the stadium where the Rattlers play. For the Knighthawks we went to a restaurant that is a sponsor for the krew web site. See if a restaurant around the arena can do a pre-game tailgate party. Mabye that place right across the arena or even Jillian's might do it too. I used to work at the Jillian's in Rochester and they did the post-game parties for the Rattlers. Get a few of your officers and talk to the G.M. You never know, they might say yes. Also once you have a place for your tailgate party, get the word out at the games and even here on the message board. Hope this helps out for you. Also congrats on making the fan club forum. Good luck and keep us posted.

One of the first things you will need to do to decide on a "tailgate" party is to figure out where you are going to hold it.

If you have it in a parking lot, which most tailgates parties happen, you will need to contact the arena and find out their rules and regulations. At the Heritage Cup, we contacted the Hershey Arena. They advised us of their rules and regulations, one BIG one was NOT open (alcohol) containers. Now what this meant to us is, we simply put our alcohol in colored plastic cups. There was nothing stating that we could not use any form of propane grill. Knabber has a Thermos Propane Bar-B-Que "grill" that I use all the time for our picnics and tail gates. It is wonderful for hots and hamburgers.

As far as liability, you will probably need to take into consideration your group. We usually have a cooler that is chuck full of beer, and a cooler chuck full of soda. Now the beer and soda usually also double for the post-game parties as well.

Krew suggested a restaurant, and that is an excellent thing. This is a great way for everybody to hang out, make a mess, and not have to worry about the weather or cleaning up. But, you will have to take care of the bill at the end of the party.

Emails, and notifications should go out to your members, fliers at the games, on the message bord, etc....

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the Krew's officers:

ususally when the roadwarriors go to away games, we always BOOB(boring our own booze):drunk:

As for your concern with the liability, one thing that should calm your nerves is that before even the smallest group gets on the road we all sign release form. That means in the even something does happen(i.e. someone gets arrested or injured), it's our own damn fault. If you don't sign one, you don't go, plain and simple. I don't know what the Krew does but that's what we do.

maybe one of the PWFC officers could expain it better..

You got away with putting stuff in cups? Down here in Rhode Island that's a big no no.... you get nailed if it just has alcohol in it...

I guess our secret was that we were at the far end of the parking lot where there was, like, no one except the invitees for the tailgater...that and the fact that we weren't setting fire to the grass or garbage bins or tipping cars or firing our guns into the air probably meant that we slipped under the cops radar...besides, we made sure that we had other consumeables on hand (like pop) so that if a cop did come by we could dump and refill. :D
