Any thoughts on the game last night? Random ones from me.
* Wasn't Colorado supposed to have this extremely potent offense? Why is the team finding it so hard to score? * San Jose's goalie completely deserved that Player of the Game award. * Again, the Colorado defense look mainly solid. There was at least one complete breakdown (um, when all the players rush out onto the floor, at least one should probably cover the guy WITH THE BALL), but for the most part, they looked good. The major problem is that it looks like the Mammoth are leaning on them too hard. * And what the Sam Hill was up with that last goal by San Jose? I'm certainly no expert on lacrosse strategy, but is it EVER a good idea to pull your goalie when you'll be starting on defense? * Another good telecast by Altitude. I enjoyed seeing Prout body-check Alex after their pre-game interview. * This is the first time I've seen a televised game at a less-than-full arena, and it was somewhat depressing. Most of the fans didn't even stand up after each San Jose goal. That has to be disheartening to the Stealth players. JC

They pulled Nash because I believe they were supposed to get the ball. Didn't they have possesion of the ball before the time out was called? Jay took a shot, bounced it off Cosmo and someone from Colorado got the rebound and time out was called. Colorado should have had the ball at about half field with just over 30 seconds left. I'll have to see if Altitude is doing a replay of the game and check it out, but I could have sworn they were supposed to get the ball after the time out.
But I had a lot of malt liquor in me, so I could have been seeing things. ;-) -athanas |

I thought it was just the announcers that were confused. What I recall was a Stealth player getting the rebound. I also recall the guy who had the ball was standing in the Stealth crease, so either way it would be Stealth ball.
Whether or not it was Stealth ball, there was about 25 seconds left and the Mammoth needed a goal to tie. Nash wasn't going to be much help getting the ball back nor was he going to be much of a scoring threat. An empty net goal would not have made a difference in the outcome of the game. You gotta pull him. The announcers are improving but until the PBP guy gains more knowledge on the game, he should stick to just the PBP and let the color guy make the mistakes. Quote:

* Our allegedly stacked offense is fifth in the league (12.00 goals per game, way down from last year's league-leading 13.94). My buddy and I were wondering last night if the problem isn't a surplus of all-stars and not enough role players -- see also last year's Colorado Avalanche and the 2004 U.S. Olympic basketball team. Hopefully the players will gel and find their roles as the season progresses.
* Our defense/goaltending is second in the league (10.75 goals per game, slightly better than last year's league-leading 10.79). Way to go, guys! This has been the bright spot for the Mammoth so far. * Aside from whether we should have gotten the ball back at the end or whether we should have pulled Nash, why did Jalbert take that last shot? We won the faceoff and had about 30 seconds left to score one goal with a two-man advantage (if we pulled Nash). Why take a questionable shot against a hot goaltender and two defenders? Why not let the offense take the floor and set up some high-quality shots?
