PaeTec Park Update - Future Home of the Rochester Rattlers

Wow, when these guys get to work, they get to work.

There are over 150 of the metal pylons already pounded into the ground and I believe there are over 500 of them to support the stadium.

The stadium seating bowl is almost complete and will be shipped on flatbed trucks to Rochester in mid-January.

The concrete will be poured in February and the seating bowl put into position.

Here is an aerial view from 400 ft. showing the progress and you can see the playing field parameter as they lay the subsurface for the playing surface.



I think this will be a facility that will inspire the Rattlers to ascend to the top of the MLL and stay there.

I'm just picturing a nice summer night or even a terrential downpour (we're awesome in those) and jumping up and down in the stands or in the Rowdies End Zone pumping the boys up.

Is there any indication as to when the new stadium to ready to open?

With some delays due to excavating the site and environmental cleanup, they couldn't go as quickly as they wanted to, so right now the estimates are mid to late August.

Very doubtful that the Rattlers will get a game there this summer, but watch out for 2006, I believe we will get Championship Weekend as long as it isn't promised to one of the expansion teams as part of the expansion deal.

Knabber da will be very happy at Kearney one more year though.

Ladies and Gentlemen;

Your Paetec Park Steel Structure has arrived on site. In total there will be over 30 trucks over the next week bringing the steel from Kentucky.



Trucks have been coming in since last night I guess. They are approximately 2 weeks early onsite, but the crew is ready for them already.

It's really starting to take shape. Bleacher decking starts being laid on Monday March 21.



They are still hoping for an August 2005 open, but no Rattlers games will be played here in 2005.

This is under the "Lakeside Stands" looking south towards downtown Rochester. You can see they are starting to put the aluminum decking that the seats will be attached to on the steel beams.

Where is everyone going to park. The parking lots for Frontier fields are "close" but I dont know how many people are going to want to walk that far.

The nearest Kodak lots are 3 or so blocks, which isn't too bad. So those are planned to be a significant source of parking. I believe there will be limited parking near the stadium (perhaps to the left of the aerial picture). I have little doubt that some of the nearby businesses and houses will take advantage of the entrepreneurial opportunity to park cars on their property, much like what happened at Silver Stadium, where parking was also limited.

I talked to Delby when Buffalo was in town the last time and he said he was interested in playing for the Rattlers since he loved his days at Rutgers and wanted to see how he matched up against the all stars that the MLL provides.

I think it will all depend on if he reports to training camp next weekend or decides to play for Six Nations this summer. Personally, I would love to see him and Gewas back in the Black and Gold (or whatever color the new jerseys are) alongside Marshall. I think Rochester is unique in that we are surrounded by some of the best Native American players in the game today and I wonder if they feel an obligation to the field game even with the changes that the MLL offers from traditional field lacrosse.
