Looks like hes right...

http://www.nllinsider.com/2008/10/14...r-knighthawks/

This doesnt make much sense...2 high round picks for the next couple years for someone who likely wont play more then a year or 2?

Traded what or whom?

The only realistic purpose would be to have a face to market (I think Jr. will more than fill that role still), but the Gaits have been out of the lacrosse mainstream marketing machine for a few years at least. Gait/STX and DeBeer all have them still but not as the face of marketing, but be honest if you ask the kids playing today who Gary and Paul Gait were and when they played at Syracuse, they probably wouldn't know. Shame, but true. I won't go as far as saying Gary can't play in this league since he laid waste to some younger competitors in the 2006 Worlds, but age has got to be in his rear view mirror and gaining, he's not a goalie like Dwight.

Would we be the only team to have both Gaits playing at different times in their history though?

Paul in 1995 - 1997 then off to Syracuse, Washington, Pittsburgh and Colorado

I know they played together at Wash/Pitt and Colorado.

I just can't wrap my head around why Gary would take focus away from getting the SU Women's Lacrosse program over the Northwestern hurdle in D-1 ? With Desko winning the Men's Title last season, that job won't have a vacancy for a number of years I'm guessing.

Knabber da bewildered, but something fun to toss around with my afternoon PowerTrip beverage.

I saw Gary on TV during some Women's broadcast and the phrase "Wow, Gary looks to be in great shape" never crossed my mind. He looks heavy but I wouldnt put it past him to get in shape. Gary has a pretty short attention span and doesnt focus too much on 1 particular job. He seems to be more interested in the next paycheck, not the 1 he is currently getting.
If CO gets anything for him, the got the better of the trade.

Default What I can't believe

Is that Gait is not a UFA. Was he hidden on a practice squad?

I mean, in this league, the land of the 1-year contract, How the hell do you still hold any player rights when the guy hasn't played in any of the past three seasons?

Two draft picks and a player is steep for a guy that has not played any competitive ball since Summer 2006, no? I mean how long do you figure he's got left, a year? two? I think this comeback will work out better than Paul's , but still, steep price for a very short term fix.

I guess Rochester is very very very very desparate for left handed scoring and holds few cards in any deal. Since Colorado somehow still had rights, I guess it is no surprise they made the Hawks pay dearly.

I believe that players who retire are still on team's protected list, or that team holds their rights first if the player wants to make a comeback.

How desperate are the hawks?
Gait had his career worst year 4 years ago when he retired he still had 5pts a game but way jacked up by assists on a high powered offense. He will tarnish his rep bad going out like this or worse injured

wow...didn't see this one coming.

some quick thoughts.

1. If NLL Insider is right and the mammoth get a player AND a couple picks...the mammoth make out great in this deal.

2. Pity the mammoth don't play the hawks this year, that would be uhh..fun or weird? to see Gary back in the can in teal and white.

3. after losing grant to an injury...cleary needed help on the "O" side...am i right?...maybe someone a little closer to the team can tell me how hard up roch is for O.

Mogul, that's my song

Hey, that's my song. I've been singing that since he played in Philly and started getting grey at the temples.

Now, I'm offended.

He maybe 41 but there really has been no challenge that Gary Gait hasn't overcome in the lacrosse world. I have a hunch he will meet this one too and I wish him the best of luck except on January 31, 2009.

I am afraid this will tarnish his amazing career.

Be interesting to see how this plays out

so, assuming the rumors are true, will rochester do better this year with gait than they would have without him but keeping grant?

i really think this is a dumb move by the hawks. hell play for a year, and probably be pretty good, but this only shows how desperate the hawks are at this point and time and how much they heavily rely on jgj. gaits the quick fix until grant is ready to play again. it is convenient as su is what an hour or 2 tops from rochester? i guess if he were to play again itd have to be w rochester for that reason.
