This is fun to be on the East Side.

NY has chance to be number 1 to 3.
Buffalo has chance to be number 1 to 2
Boston has chance to be number 2 to 3.

Gosh, this is really fun, and man, league got lucky this time around

Yup ... crazy three way race at the top, and a win-or-go-home for the 4 seed. Good finish for the East.

Hopefuly the Hawks will wake up from their sleepwalk starting in the second half vs Calgary and through this past weekends game. I think the alarm is set and home cooking will bring the Hawks the playoffs!

Here in Toronto both the Rock and Maple Leafs have ended their seasons by missing the playoffs, nevertheless these teams have one thing in common - they're the best golfers in their respective leagues.

Good luck to all the playoff bound teams. It's now Buffalo road trip time!

Being a Leafs fan must be great. You always know when you schedule spring vacation.

Maybe this time, I'll finally get to make a trip to Newark!

Isn't Calgary the #1 seed overall now? If CGY lost and BUF won, then they'd both be tied at 11-5, but CGY wins the common-opponents tiebreaker....

All I can say is "GO TITIANS!!!!!!!!!!!". I would love to make a trip down Hwy 2 to watch my first ever Playoff game. Of course the Rush have to help themselves as well. I guess it will come down to which team wants it more.

Thanks. I didn't see that documented anywhere though. I would have thought that the league might have mentioned that....

Looks like we might have a repeat of 2004 - hopefully, with a different result!

Nah ... We are going to relive the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals, Game 6, style.

I'm almost afraid to ask this, as there have already been so many threads on how tie-breaks are decided. (there were so many, I ended up more confused by trying to read them all!)

But in this scenario, what puts Buffalo seeded ahead of Boston? We'd both be 10-6, and 1-1 head-to-head, right?

Does it go to goals for/against? Or is this where the much-debated inter- vs intra-league record gets brought in?

And maybe 74 and 75 finals on the way to that game! As long as it's not 1980 and Leon Stickle.

1) Head to head: Tied at 1-1.

2) Divisional record: Tied at 7-5 (BUF: 1-1 vs MIN, 1-0 vs POR, 1-0 vs EDM, plus 7-5 in division; BOS: 1-0 vs MIN, 1-0 vs CAL, 1-0 vs SJS, 0-1 vs POR, 7-5 in division).

3) Record against opponents played a equal number of times:

NYT: No, Boston played 3x, Buffalo only twice
PHI: No, Boston played 3x, Buffalo only twice
ROC: No, Buffalo played 3x, Boston only twice
TOR: Buffalo played 3x, Boston only twice
POR: BUF 1-0, BOS 0-1
All other west teams: No, BUF played MIN twice, BOS played them once, and all other teams in the west didn't play both of them

Therefore, Buffalo is 1-0 against common opponents (POR), while BOS is 0-1. Buffalo wins the tiebreaker.

Wow.

a) Thanks for that analysis. It was well-written and very clear.
b) Who could have imagined that a single, mid-season OT loss (might) have such an impact?! Sigh.

thanks again!

Crap, now the Swarm have nothing to play for tomorrow night. Do they roll over and let the Titans have their way or do they play out just like any other regular season game? Titans and Blazers win tomorrow night and Boston has to go play in front of 10-15 Titans fans. That sucks.

Actually, if the Titans and Blazers win, the Blazers go to Buffalo and the winner of PHI/ROC goes to NY. NY would win the East in that scenario.
