Jake Bergey racked up eight points and Game MVP Tom Marechek had seven as the Philadelphia Wings topped the Rochester Knighthawks before 15,550 tonight in the First Union Center, 15-12.

Bergey registered four goals and four assists, while Marechek, who scored three times in the fourth quarter, had six goals and one assist.

The Wings overcame a 9-6 halftime deficit and the loss of starting goalie Dallas Eliuk to a major penalty in raising their record to 2-1. Down 11-7, Eliuk had to serve a charging penalty, during which time his team rallied behind backup Andy Piazza to take a one-goal lead, 12-11.

The win snapped a Philadelphia two-game losing streak against the Knighthawks (2-1) and overshadowed a two goal, four assist performance by Rochester’s John Grant, Jr., who continues to live up to his status from being drafted first overall last September. The 1999 NCAA Division I Player of the Year (U. of Delaware) now has 19 points in three games (7+12).

Things don’t get any easier for the Knighthawks, who now play a home-and-home series over the next two weekends with the defending NLL champion Toronto Rock.
