The Philadelphia Wings held off a late New York rally and used two offensive surges of their own and a six point effort from rookie Gewas Schindler to post a 15-13 triumph tonight.

The Saints’ fourth quarter comeback from a 15-10 deficit wasn’t enough as they fell to 2-3.

Philadelphia (3-1), playing before the National Lacrosse League’s largest crowd of the season, 16,750, scored five times in a span of 3:16 in the third quarter to go from being down 6-5 to leading 10-6 and also netted three scores in 1:18 midway through the fourth quarter after the visitors had cut the Wings’ lead to 12-10.

Schindler, the team’s first round selection (seventh overall) in last September’s NLL Draft, broke out with three goals and three assists. The Loyola College graduate had been a healthy scratch the last two games after having debuted with one assist on opening night.

Philadelphia’s Jake Bergey was the Game MVP with three goals and five assists. New York was led by six points from Roy Colsey (3+3) and Darren Lowe (1+5) and five goals from Mark Frye, who played with Schindler at Loyola.

The two teams meet again on Friday night (February 11) at Nassau Coliseum in New York.
